Pastificio Liguori in Gragnano is among the oldest in Italy, its origins date back to 1795. Today, as then, we preserve a distinctive method, the result of know-how handed down from generation to generation, called the Liguori Method.

The story
1795

1795

The founder Gaetano Liguori obtained from the Municipal Council of Gragnano the concession to "make and sell good quality and unique macaroni" inside his shop, creating one of the oldest pasta producing companies in Italy and in the world.

1845

The King of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, Ferdinand II of Bourbon, after visiting Gragnano and tasting Liguori pasta, granted the pasta factory the privilege of supplying his summer residence, the Reggia di Quisisana in Castellammare di Stabia, with all the long pasta.

1939

Adelina Liguori, one of the first entrepreneurs of the century, is at the helm of Pastificio Liguori. Thanks to her, the Pasta Factory took the name of: “Grande Pastificio Elettrico Adelina Liguori e Fratelli”. Under her innovative drive, the “Alba d'oro” pasta brand was established, one of the best known in the entire City of Gragnano and one of the first to establish itself on the national and international market, becoming one of the first brands exported to America. Adelina established herself as a pioneer in the pasta industry

1980

Following the Irpinia earthquake that destroyed the historic headquarters in Via Roma, Gerardo Liguori dedicated himself to reopening the pasta factory in its current location in Via dei Pastai 50. With this move from the city center to the industrial area, a fundamental turning point in the history of the Pasta Factory was marked. In fact, the Pasta Factories in the city center could only develop in height due to space constraints. In the industrial area, however, with a structure developed horizontally it was possible to give more and more space

1993

The history of the Liguori pasta factory starts from the Casillo family. The Liguori brand, sold in Italy and around the world, is characterized by the high quality of 100% Italian raw materials. The constant search for high quality, soon allows the brand to establish itself as an excellence of Made in Italy.

2013

The European Commission awards the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) Certification to Pasta di Gragnano. Pastificio Liguori is a Founding Member of the Protection Consortium (founded in 2003) and is the first industrial pasta factory to obtain this certification. Since 2013, Pastificio Liguori has been among the largest producers of Pasta di Gragnano PGI.
Subsequently, in 2019, the Consortium also obtains official recognition of the Protection function.

2019

Pasta Liguori is undergoing an important rebranding and restyling of its packaging, characterized by the recovery of the historic logo from the 1950s and the use of the company colors of white, blue and red. The pack is also the first 100% recyclable paper on the market. The distinctive indication on the packaging is “Slowly dried”.

2023

Pastificio Liguori is starting a process of conservative restyling of the pack, to make the product pluses, such as the use of 100% Italian wheat from a certified supply chain and slow drying, more immediate and distinctive and, at the same time, highlight and clearly display the important innovations of the year: the certified drying hours, the 100% Italian supply chain insured in blockchain, the phases of the certified Liguori Method, the pack made with FSC certified paper.

Today

"Genuine food, macaroni, as genuine
as the men of Gragnano"

The etymology of the word Gragnano honors this noble art; its name comes from a “praedium graniium”, or an agricultural land where the Gens Grania, of Roman origin, dedicated themselves to the processing of wheat and the production of bread. Later this farm gave life to a real urban center, called “Granianum” and detached from the ancient city of Stabiae.
